TARA Y. COYT believes in the power of the written
word. Known as The Write Author Coach, Tara helps aspiring and
existing authors by sharing her best talents - writing, strategic
development, marketing and creativity.
In addition to publishing
her own works and creating marketing messages for
corporations, entrepreneurs and speakers, Tara is the
Editor-In-Chief of Event City Magazine and a preferred editor for
Moody Publishers. She has written
for Atlanta Magazine, Catalyst Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine, the Atlanta
Voice, the Black MBA Magazine and The Association Book.
Tara's marketing and book development advise have been quoted on
numerous web sites and translated into Japanese.
Her compulsion to share information and her knack for
collaboration led to the creation of the GET IT WRITE Author's
Circle, which features teleclasses, workshops and resources from
literary and publishing professionals. Her first book, DOWNlo
MARKETING: Uncover Your Business, Discover More Profits is an
example of Tara’s straightforward, personable and humorous approach
to writing.
Growing up with her twin brother in Cleveland, OH,
Tara spent summers reading Agatha
Christie mysteries, Black history books and novels by her favorite
author, Tony Morrison (when she wasn't playing basketball in the
backyard). Throughout elementary school, high school and
college Tara’s teachers urged her to pursue a career in writing, but
she chose a different path (actually several different paths) before
finally realizing she couldn’t deny the truth: she is a writer.
Tara
worked for the Internal Revenue Service, spent several years in the
insurance industry, earned an MBA in Marketing
from The Ohio
State University. Soon after she was selected as a Walter Kaitz Foundation
Fellow and recruited by TCI, the largest cable operator in the
country. While at TCI, she
managed cooperative marketing programs with cable providers like HBO
and Showtime and was selected to work on the launch of new digital
cable and telephony services.
Tara built a reputation as an innovative
change-agent while at Burrell Communications, where she led
national campaigns for McDonald’s. She was responsible for editing
the Little Known Black History Facts booklets and managing the
program's national advertising efforts.
Shortly after 9/11, Tara jumped into the world of entrepreneurship
with Coyt Communications and eventually moved the business to
Atlanta, GA. One year after arriving in Atlanta her work as a
marketing strategist, copywriter and editorial manager were
recognized with an outstanding business achievement award from the
Atlanta Business League.
She has also been
instrumental in launching and managing several new ventures
including The Business Plan Boot Camp for Entrepreneurs, Pro
Speakers Bureau and the Chicago Hip Hop Music Awards.
Tara currently serves on the Atlanta Writers Club
board and the Atlanta Technical College
Foundation board,
chairing the college’s annual
fund raising event. She is a graduate of the United Way of
Metropolitan Atlanta’s Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) and
has served as a Community Investment Volunteer for the
organization. She was a founding member of the Institute of
African American Studies, a community forum leader for Chicago’s
The Public Square, a member of the Chicago chapter of the
National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Chicago chapter of
the National Coalition of 100 Black Men, the Black MBA
Association and the National Association of Minorities in
Communications.
When she isn’t coaching authors or writing (a column
for Catalyst Magazine, a memoir and a book on spirituality) Tara can
be heard discussing the GET IT WRITE Approach. Her audiences
include writers, business professionals, elected officials,
speakers, educators and college students striving to transform
their ideas, goals, experience and passions into successful
ventures.
Organizations benefiting from Tara's
GET IT WRITE Approach
and marketing communication programs include : BellSouth, Cingular, Georgia
Pacific, The Miller Urban Entrepreneur Series, the Georgia
Department of Education, Kennesaw State University, The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), The Black
Business Professionals Conference and the U.S. Army Reserves.
